EMFs, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and Calcium

Are you experiencing sensitivity to EMFs? This can be a common symptoms for sensitive individuals and with radiation increasing in a rapid rate in the world - I started to deep dive into MCAS cellular stresses and their mechanisms… and found some interesting thoughts on calcium and homeopathic remedies which be usefully at stabilising Mast Cells.


EMFs may increase histamine & mast cell activity

Research suggests EMF exposure can influence mast cells in several ways:



  • Studies in electromagnetic-sensitive individuals have found higher histamine levels, with skin reactions commonly reported


  • Experimental studies have shown mast cell degranulation following EMF exposure at levels comparable to mobile phone use


  • EMFs stimulate voltage-gated calcium channels, allowing excess calcium into cells — a key trigger for mast cell activation and histamine release


  • This can heighten inflammation and nervous system reactivity, contributing to flushing, itching, headaches, brain fog, palpitations and fatigue


In MCAS, cumulative EMF exposure may support better symptom regulation.

So where does calcium come into this…?


MCAS are programmed by voltage calcium channels! And this is why some functional doctors are seeing patients doing better on calcium blockers or sodium blockers for MCAS… Did you know homeopathy have many remedies made from calcium sources? Have you used calcarea carbonicum?


Calcium, EMFs & sensitivity — what actually helps, EMFs don’t create a calcium deficiency.
They’re thought to abnormally open voltage-gated calcium channels, letting too much calcium into cells at the wrong time. That’s a signalling problem, not a lack-of-calcium problem. So keep the milk in your tasty coffee!

What is a Mast Cell?

Mast cells are a part of your immune system, they are white blood cells found throughout the bodies tissue and blood.  'The body’s alarm system', They look out for harmful invaders; once found they send out signals to open your blood vessels, fill your tissues with fluid and contract muscles in your GI tract and airways. Your mast cells store inflammatory mediators, including histamine inside granules. When you have an allergic reaction, it will activate your mast cells triggering an allergic response that will lead to the release of histamine and other chemicals. They’re made in your bone marrow, then move through your bloodstream into your tissues. The mature mast cells live in tissues throughout your body to help protect us. They can help fight infections and regulate your organs. One of there common known uses is in seasonal allergies or allergic asthma. Mast cell activation can sometimes cause anaphylaxis, a serious allergic reaction.

When your mast cells are 'over'active or 'over' stimulated, we start to react to harmless things in your environment; foods, chemicals, perfume's, EMF and much more.

Calcium channels are voltage-sensitive.

A calmer nervous system …. more stable membrane potentials ….. fewer inappropriate calcium spikes

also this explains why magnesium often helps (and calcium restriction doesn’t)

Magnesium:

• stabilises calcium channels

• buffers calcium signalling

• raises activation thresholds


Calcium restriction, on the other hand, doesn’t fix signalling — and can make nerves more excitable.


This research supports regulation over reduction.

In research, mast cell activation always begins with calcium influx inside the cell — but modulating that influx doesn’t necessarily stop mast cell activation

  • Calcium channel blockers can reduce some types of symptoms

  • They’re not a cure for MCAS…. Maybe homeopathy can step in and support now
